Our designer has finished our new look for the searchbuster web directory. We are also able to offer more listing options to site submitters, check it out here. Our plan is to now implement the new directory design into our blog and forums for a more unified look throughout our site.

I have been working on my Web Directory Book these last couple of months and should have it available for release just after new year. The book covers all facets of starting and growing a web directory, it’s targeted toward both new and experienced directory owners as well as people considering to start a directory.

It’s been a hectic week and everyone seems to be waiting on bated breath for the upcoming PR update. There are a few directories reporting submission slowdowns pending the update, but that seems to happen every update, for me it’s been business as usual. There was a long winded discussion at DP regarding Google canning the PR Toolbar and what effects it would have on the industry, personally I think it would be great if G got rid of it, it would sort the chaff from the wheat when it comes to directories, but of course that wouldn’t be in G’s best interest. Another poster at DP has stated he has it on good authority that G will not dismiss the little green bar and has never thought to do so, well we will have to wait and see.
Jeff posted recently with an update to an earlier directory backlink list, this shows some of the hardest working directory owners, well for gaining backlinks anyway.
Jude has posted up a web directory statistic list which is sorted by ratio regarding the amount of listings as opposed to the amount of categories at the directory. The figures shown are for regular listings and don’t take into account featured listings. It was good to see searchbuster in the list although I have still got a lot of work to do. Aviva is leading the way with a healthy 13k regular listings and 1482 categories. Thanks Jude, a very insightful post.
At directory owners forum theres a discussion regarding forming a directory association, this could be something along the lines of the BBB Better Business Bureau type of thing. This is something long overdue in the directory sector, so all directory owners, sign up and have your say, get involved and lets get this going.
